The miniskirt trend is still with us for 2010. Fantastic news if you have great legs, but how do you keep your look current? We have come up with some top tips for fashionistas who want to rock this look: If you want to wear the miniskirt look but feel too self-conscious, you’re in luck – there are lots of ways to dress it down.

Leggings and tights

Leggings and tights are still very much in fashion this year and you can pick them up in a multitude of designs. Patterned and coloured tights are a big story, and if you’re bold you can really have fun with them. If you prefer a subtler look, or wish to slim your legs down, try something with a vertical stripe and stick with darker colours in a matt finish.

Layers

Get creative with your outfit by layering your tops. Try a fitted tee with an oversized vest or go sophisticated by adding a tank top or blazer.

Socks

Over-the-knee socks are also everywhere this year and can add a really cute touch for the younger wearer, particularly when worn with a pair of flat boots.

Boots

Boots are a perfect way to finish your look and you can find some fabulous options from ankle boots to thigh highs. Stick with flats if you’re unsure, as these often give a classier look than heels.

Bare legs

Only for the bold but if you have perfect pins you can show them off on a night out and any imperfections can be disguised with body makeup or self-tanning products.

Too old for minis?

Ah, the age-old question, at what age do you suddenly become too old for the mini? It’s not so much a matter of age as whether or not you know how to put an outfit together and have the kind of legs that can look great in a mini. Older celebrities like Jennifer Anniston and Demi Moore still look fantastic in miniskirts. A good rule for anyone who wants to look great in a mini is to remember to pair it with something appropriate and avoid wearing a low cut top with it – this is a no-no at any age!
