The Corset – A Fashion Item For Both Regular and Plus Size Women

By Erika Ayala

Fashion items from the past have a way of traveling to the future. Take for example the corset. It is a popular inner garment for women during the Victorian era and is built for women with full figures. Basically, it was built for voluptuous women who wanted to have an hourglass figure. Basically, the corset was created to make the waist smaller and emphasize the bust and hips. At the same time, using a corset has helped many women hide the bulges they try hard to hide. Because of the way this helped their shape, their postures were straightened as well.

Unfortunately, corsets in that period created several problems for women. It is probably because of the hard materials these were made of. Victorian women often fainted because they found it hard to breathe. For a while, the corset was forgotten but at present, it has made its way to our present fashion. Instead of being too tight, restricting women, these are made with delicate material and can still give girls the form they desire.

Now, not only plus size women wear corsets but also slim women, who wish to gain a better figure. In addition to this, women can now wear these as a top. For some reason, wearing a corset symbolizes being liberal, since this is supposed to be an inner garment. Many movie stars and artists wear these with jeans and other types of bottoms. Rather than condemning them, they are then praised for their daring efforts. All in all, corsets may be part of our past but it has made its way to our present and also to the closets of both plus size and regular size women.
