Even though most people are just breaking out the shorts and swimsuits for summer, fashion forward minds have already turned to the colors of autumn. The Pantone Color Institute, the global authority on color standards, has released its Fashion Color Report for Fall 2009. The diverse palette includes a broad gamut of distinctive, yet somehow cohesive, colors that work alone or together.
Because of tough economic times, the colors for the upcoming season include less overpowering tones than recently past seasons. The goal is to allow the clothing to have a more timeless flavor, allowing you to extend the longevity of your wardrobe, yet still look enticing and fresh to consumers. Here are the ten colors that will be strong this fall and beyond.
American Beauty American beauty is a true red that boasts of patriotism. This striking shade is kind to nearly every skin tone, lacking an overabundance of either orange or purple. This tone is easy on the eyes, sings of optimism and coordinates beautifully with many other colors. |
Purple Heart This rich color manages to blend both an air of sensuality and sophistication. You’ll find this shade in the middle between a true purple and a more pastel lilac. Pair it with American Beauty for a lively, creative combo. |
Rapture Rose This appealing color is feminine yet vibrant. Last season’s vivid fuchsia has been toned down with a lighter pink, creating a softer shade. You’ll be seeing this color take on an important role in cosmetics and accessories as well. |
Crème Brulee This delicate blend of ivory beige and grey will be a classic neutral in this fall’s designs. Named for the delectable French dessert, this warm shade will look delicious with any of the other top ten colors. |
Majolica Blue This shade blends teal and navy to form a rich, exotic hue. You’ll find Majolica Blue makes an eye catching combination when teamed with shades of orange and purple. |
Warm Olive This color is a warm green with a yellow undertone. According to the Pantone Fall Color Report 2009 “it makes all other colors come alive.” It brings a flair of sophistication and elegance to autumn’s color palette. |
Honey Yellow This golden yellow adds a warm, autumnal hue to the Mimosa shade that was so popular this spring and summer. Pair it with traditional fall colors or make a statement by teaming it with Purple Heart or Majolica Blue. |
Iron This earthy shade is neither brown nor black, but somewhere in between. It has been coined the “new black” and will serve as a strong neutral, providing grounding for the other colors of the season. |
Nomad This is another classic neutral that will prove to be an integral part of your wardrobe. A melding of tones of grey and beige, this color will serve as an anchor when paired with more vibrant hues. |
Burnt Sienna This rich, warn shade takes its cue from autumn sunsets. An earthier shade of last season’s tangerine, this is a versatile color that will blend nicely or create a strong contrast, whichever you desire. These colors will be appearing soon at a department store near you. Look for them on all the latest fashions for fall. |
